Tanworth In Arden Village Fete Organisers
Thank you to everyone for supporting this year’s Tanworth In Arden village Fete. Attendance was beyond what we imagined and it was a fantastic afternoon with the weather being good to us – the black clouds gathered but only showers prevailed. We received such positive comments both at the event and via this website afterwards.
We will be making substancial donations to St Basil’s in Birmingham and Wythall Animal Sanctuary and in addition, we will be making a donation to the school as a thank you for letting us use its grounds and facililities.
We would also like to thnak all our sponsors once again, especially Tanworth Parish Council.
The good news is we want to do it again and make next years even better! The date has been set for July 14th 2012. We have decided to make the date later so as not to clash with any Village Jubilee celebrations at the beginning of June and so as to avoid the date of the Earlswood Fete.

Radio and TV personality Joanne Malin is to open this Summer’s fete in one of the most picturesque villages in Warwickshire.
Joanne, from BBC Radio WM 95.60, will be joined by her Labrador Maisy at the opening of the Tanworth-in-Arden village fete on Saturday 11 June in the grounds of Tanworth village school from 2pm.
Maisy’s presence reflects the fact that the fete will be hosting a fun village dog show with rosettes in five categories.
Other attractions are set to include a cakes and preserves stand run by Bentley Heath Country Market, a children’s’ fancy dress competition , a coconut shy, a ‘bouncy castle’ and horse and cart rides.
Part of the proceeds from the fete will be distributed to Wythall Animal Sanctuary and
St Basils, the Birmingham-based charity for homeless young people.
Kate Dickin, on behalf of the organising committee, said: “The fete was once a regular annual feature of village life but the 2011 event will be the first for some years. We are expecting a good turnout from the village and surrounding areas”.
Refreshments at the fete will include a Beer and Pimms tent, a pig roast, lamb burgers, and traditional tea and cakes.
The primary objective of the Fete is to have an enjoyable family day out which helps to support a sense of community.
Fund raising is not the primary objective on this occasion, but any surplus that is generated will be used to help provide some capital to make next years event even more successful – this year has been a little ‘hand to mouth’ and we are so grateful for the financial help from our sponsors without which the event could not go ahead.
It will also be our intention to also share some of any surplus with two local charites:

I have been asked recently where money raised from this event will be going, so to clarify, it was decided at our very first committee meeting that we never intended for this event to be a big fundraiser, it obviously needed to cover it’s costs but our main focus was for the fete to be a fun community event.
I personally have very fond memories of coming to the village fete when I was a child and want my children to have similar memories. However it has been decided that a percentage of any profit will be given to a local charity (as of yet to be confirmed) and the rest will be set aside to give us a good platform to build on and make next years fete even better.
So, here are more details as promised last month. We are going to have a children’s fancy dress competition which will be split into 2 categories: 6 years and under with the theme of fairy tales, and an open competition for children aged 7 or over, there will be 1st, 2nd & 3rd rosettes presented in each age group.
Classes for the FUN dog show are as follows: dog with the waggiest tail, dog most like it’s owner, dog the judge would most like to take home, prettiest bitch and most handsome dog, rosettes will be presented to 5th place.
There will also be horse and cart rides

Plans are now well under way, with bouncy castles booked and lots of traditional (and some new!) fête activities planned, including a dog show to which all well behaved dogs are invited to attend – class details will follow next month.
The time has been set for 2pm – 5pm and it will be held in the grounds of school where there is plenty of outdoor space and some indoor, in case it rains, which of course it won’t!
